Newborn Jaundice Screening

Jaundice is a yellow tone to a newborn's skin and the eyes. It implies that there's too much bilirubin in your baby's blood. Jaundice usually develops in the first 5 days of life. Babies are routinely checked for jaundice before discharge from the hospital. Most babies have mild jaundice. It usually resolves on its own within a week or two without causing problems. But in some cases, if the bilirubin level stays high, it can cause brain damage called kernicterus. At Brantford Pediatrics, we are equipped to screen for your baby's bilirubin level without needing a blood sample. Ask your Doctor for a referral to Brantford Pediatrics if you or your doctor is concerned about Jaundice with your newborn.

Depression and Anxiety

Depression a mental health problem that leads to an endless feeling of sadness and lack of interest in activities previously enjoyed. It affects how your child/teen thinks, feels and behaves, and it can cause emotional, functional and physical problems. Although depression can occur at any time in life, symptoms may be different between teens and adults.

Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health ailments. Everyone experiences stress and worry. Your child worries excessively about many things, including school, health or safety of family member. There are many different types of anxiety disorders which all share one common trait — prolonged, intense anxiety that is out of proportion to the present situation and affects a person's daily life and happiness.Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Phobias. Social anxiety, Panic attacks, Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are all different manifestations of anxiety.

Hearing Screening

A hearing screening is a quick way to see how well you hear. You either pass or fail the screening. If you pass, you do not need to do anything else. If you fail, you may need more testing to see if you have a hearing loss. A hearing screening can be done at any age. Most babies have a hearing screening before they leave the hospital. Hearing screening should be performed if your child did not get a hearing screening after birth, if you have any concerns about your child's hearing or if there is a speech delay.
